Fash Made a Thing, Issue 1 Vol 1

Previous White leather

Easter is such a great time for eating too much, getting drunk on what would normally be a school night and doing a bunch of long weekend sale shopping (I wont tell you guys how ape-sh*t I went, but you can imagine). It’s also a great time to reassess all the stuff you have piled up, which often includes but is not limited to clothes that don’t get worn. I’m talking about that pair of jeans that just don’t fit quite right but you bought them anyway, that pair of shoes that is half a size too big, and the rest. So in a kind of post-wedding catharsis (I recently married the man of my dreams yay!) I’ve taken all my clothes out, done a Marie Kondo and put aside the stuff that doesn’t spark joy. Or fit anymore. Or even look good-god-what-was-I-thinking-why-am-I-like-this? Etc.

I’ve loaded the goodies onto Ebay, which you can see here. I’ll send a few to the Op Shop, but I’m trying really hard to maximise their value and make a bit of cash. There was something about the whole recent wedding thing that made me want to really re-generate the money I’d spent!!! So my biggest driver at the moment is making the most of what I have, and making the most of what I’m letting go of.

Another thing I did was make these bad-boys happen – A.K.A., my side-stripe obsession, manifested:

Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy.

“Fash?!” I hear you ask, “you made those? How the AF? I can’t even sew a button on a shirt!”

WITH SO MUCH EASE, actually! I legit just grabbed some stripe trim from Lincraft, grabbed my rarely-worn black drop-crotch pants and sewed the twain together, in the side-stripe style. I used:

  • 1.8 metres of striped trim (you could choose any colour, I just liked the red and blue, but the possibilities are endless)
  • Red and blue thread
  • 1 Needle
  • Some pins to hold the trim in place while you sew
  • A pair of scissors
  • a glass of wine and a podcast (optional)

It took me maybe three nights-ish of Netflix-ing while I sat and hand-sewed. Which is, believe it or not, something I really enjoy and find quite relaxing. Last year I sat and sewed sequins onto a whole bunch of costumes for our Cult Dance showcase and I kind of miss that… anyway, I then road-tested them chasing a girlfriend’s Cavoodle around Edinburgh Gardens, and they held up perfectly.

Side note: you CAN sew a button onto a shirt, and I’d hate for you to live your life without being able to just fix a button whenever you need to because you have to wait for a family member to do it for you. If you’d like a tutorial, holla at me in the comments!

So I’m sitting here very smugly knowing I’ve got a similar version of the sports-inspired pants I’ve coveted from the likes of PE Nation, Adidas and others chillin’ in my wardrobe. I can’t wait to style them – should I do a look book with them? Why not eh.

I hope this was in some way inspiring for youse, please let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Much love,

Fash xoxo
